Green your footprint!

GREENING TIPS:

It's pruning time.  Instead of sending garden refuse to landfills, use the degradable material to start a compost heap.  It's realy easy.

Plant a tree - or many trees.

Water the garden early in the morning, not in the heat of the day.

Mulch, mulch, mulch as much as possible, wherever possible with any of the many mulches available.  Groundcovers serve the same purpose.

Add waterabsorbing polymers to the soil to improve the waterholding capacity and cut down on watering.  Available at Lifestyle Home Garden.

Water plants at the roots and as deeply as possible.

Wash fruit and vegetables over a bucket and re-use the water in the garden.  The same goes for that cup or glass you quickly rinse many times a day.

Check hoses for leaks and rather irrigate than spray with the hose.  Less watering is needed during the winter months - set the irrigation system accordingly.

Go to www.greenworks.co.za and check your carbon footprint for interest's sake.  It will give an indication of where you can cut down to green your footprint.
